In brief the student should respond to the areas noted below as they apply to their proposed
research project. These responses, which should not exceed three to four typewritten pages,
should be attached to this cover page by no later than The student should take care to carefully
complete this proposal, since the overall project cannot be undertaken until it is approved by
instructor. The areas that need to be briefly discussed include:

ˆYPOTHESIS STATEMENT pecify one or more hypotheses. Include
dependent/independent variables for the hypotheses where appropriate.
’ESEARCH DESIGN iscuss the research design and specify the type of design
selected &or example: Historical, experimental, quasi-experimental, etc.
„ATA COLLECTION TECHNIQUES escribe the measures/data to be
obtained/collected and how the data will be obtained/collected &or example: use of
surveys, use of monitoring equipment, test scores, review of medical records, etc.
‚RIEF REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE ist at least five sources which you
consider important to your proposal and provide a summary of some of the
information provide in these sources that is important to your research project. This
section of the proposal must be referenced in a professional style APA format;
including citations within the text and complete references at the end of the document
in the references section. This section should be at least one page in length for the
initial proposal.
This initial proposal will be evaluated by your instructor. Students should keep a copy of
the approved proposal for their use as they complete the research project. If your research
involves human subjects you will need to work with your advisor/mentor to submit the
completed materials required by the Youngstown State University Human Subjects
Research Committee (HSRC) and other Institutional Review Board (if applicable) to
receive the HSRC approval prior to collecting data. (Simulated)
