Troy University Self Disclosure in Groups Discussion
Description
If you were to ask five different social workers about their thoughts on self-disclosure as a therapist or group leader, you might get 5 different answers. Have you fully developed your own professional stance on the topic?
Chapter 2 briefly reviews disclosing oneself and some of the benefits and pitfalls associated with self-disclosure in a group, but it is important to explore further. Some group leaders feel it is never okay to self-disclose, and some state it is okay in certain circumstances. Corey indicates that self-disclosure is both a skill and a process that group leaders need to learn.
