PART 2 (2ND PDF ANSWER): WRITE THE DRAFT OF YOUR MONOLOGUE :
Step #1: PLAY!!!!!
Once you know who your character is,who they are talking to, and what their conflict
and obstacles are, I encourage you to improvise!!! Close your door and talk to yourself!
Keep thinking about the 3 questions every actor asks themselves:
hat do I want?
hat is in my way?
hat do I do to get what I want?
Pretend you are the character you created and imagine you are talking to Character #2.
Say it out loud!!!
IMPORTANT!!!! Character #2 does NOT speak. They only listen. This is a monologue.
This is not a dialogue.
Step #2: Write your monologue
Now that you have improvised and played around with getting what you want as your
character, write the first draft of your monologue! Below is a video that might help you
get started writing. Below that is an example of a monologue .
We will work on these in class and you will revise and resubmit them. It is a process!!!
Go for it!!!

MONOLOGUE EXAMPLE
Character name and age: CHLOE, 19
Character description: Chloe is strong, honest, and fiesty.
Character Goal and Conflict: Chloe needs to set boundaries with her father. He has
hurt her deeply and she is afraid to give him another chance. She is afraid for her Mom
and sisters because they aren’t as tough as she is. She has to protect them. He is so
charming and seems so sorry that she wants to give him another chance but she knows
better. Her love for him is the obstacle.
Setting: The living room of the house where Chloe lives with her Mom and sisters.
CHLOE: I have something I need to tell you. I can let you keep staying in our house
and thinking that I trust you. So I`gonna set it straight. I don trust you one bit. You
left a long time ago and nothing will ever change what you broke. You can pull your
little fade as long as you want but I`not falling for it anymore. Because I`older,
smarter, and you¥ not gonna fool me twice. Itàgoing to take a long time for you to
earn your way back into this family, and even when you do I still won trust you.
Because the truth is I`done pretending that I`OK with having you around. From
now on, every step you take forward I will be one ahead of you. Don think that you¥
getting off the hook so easily. I’ll never forget the way Mom cried when you left. She
was so depressed she couldn’t work! I had to get a job so we could make rent. I almost
failed out of school because everything fell to me. TO ME! Now, just when things are
going good you show up with you, “I’m so sorry” and “I’ve changed”. Huh. I wish I
could believe it. You have no idea how much I wish that. I guess what I`trying to say
is that I want you out. And if you don do it to yourself, then I will.
