Text Analysis Project Revising and Adding
Description
Your written analysis should be the form of a fact sheet. Fact sheets are clearly organized and use titles, subheadings, and bullet points. You do not need to use color, illustrations, or do anything fancy in the design of your fact sheet. This should be about 2-2 1/2 pages single spaced. The purpose of the fact sheet is to explain to someone how they might write the particular genre you are analyzing.
You will begin by giving the genre toolkit information for the genre — What is it? Who reads it? and What’s it for?
Write one sentence that includes the authors, source/publication, and date of publication (if available) for each text.
List Content, Organization, Language, Design, and Values separately and identify 2-3 features for each element. Think about the conventions that both samples share.
For each feature you find:
- Name it (identify it).
Include quoted and/or paraphrased text that is an example of it. You do not have to include an example from each sample – one is fine, unless you think having two examples gives the reader a better idea of how that feature works.
- Analyze how and why it is used in the text.
- Explain how it connects to the textàeffectiveness or ineffectiveness.
Write a brief paragraph explaining your evaluation of the texts. Do the authors accomplish the purpose of the genre? Are they effective? Explain your ideas.
