Southwest Attitudes Beliefs Values Attitudes & Beliefs Evident in NRA Website Analysis
Description
Choose one of the websites for a major advocacy organization listed below. Explore the website and identify different beliefs, attitudes, and values the website assumes and/or cultivates in its readers. Focus just on the website and not what you might know of the organization from media coverage or your own research. Visual and structural content is as important as textual content – for example, what might the use of color, page layout, or font choice tell us? Then, choose which of the three structures Perloff describes (expectancy-value, symbolic, or ideological) best explains the ways your chosen website is trying to persuade its readers, and justify your answer.
In your analysis, be sure to:
identify specific attitudes, values, and beliefs evident in the content on your organizationàwebsite
distinguish between those attitudes/values/beliefs the website assumes its readers already has and those it is attempting to cultivate in its readers
provide specific examples of evidence supporting your identification of these attitudes/values/beliefs, using the textbookàdescription of the characteristics (e.g. ttitudes are global, typically emotional evaluations`of each as guides
- justify which attitudinal structure best helps us understand the website – explain why that structure and not either of the other two
