Throughout this unit we have discussed Modern Misrepresentations of Native Americans in popular
culture. For this essay, you will select a text of your choice, analyze the textàhistorical context, and
thoroughly dissect the rhetorical strategies used. You will then discuss the textàoverall effectiveness
based on the historical context and the authoràuse of rhetorical strategies.
You may select one of the assigned texts, videos, or images that we covered from this unit, OR you may
choose an article, artwork, video, or a meme that you find connected to the topic of Modern

Final Essay: Managing, Evaluating, and Comparing Multiple Texts
Our Final Essay will require you to present your own position relative to texts we have read over the
course of the semester. Please select 1 text from each of our 3 units to put in conversation with one
another using the key words %scribing the relationship between texts. fterwards, you will add
something new to the conversation with your own solution/position, and you should draw on evidence
from outside sources to support your position.
Criteria for Evaluation:
1. Select 1 text from each of our 3 units to put in conversation with each other
2. Start with the text you selected from Unit 3 (our most recent unit) and accurately identify the
project and argument, and what you see as the most important or interesting claims
3. locate claims and/or evidence from 2 other class texts (one from Unit 1 and another from Unit 2)
that connect with the argument in the text you selected from Unit 3
4. analyze these claims/evidence in order to show how they illustrate, challenge, extend, or
complicate arguments found in your Unit 3 text
5. present evidence that explains in detail how these texts illustrate, clarify, extend, or complicate
the argument in the Unit 3 text you selected
6. comment on how all of 3 texts fit together in conversation (either structurally, thematically, etc.)
7. conclude by adding your own position/solution based on outside sources to support your position
8. use an effective structure that carefully guides the reader from one idea to the next and be
thoroughly edited so that sentences are readable and appropriate for an academic paper
9. include a properly MLA formatted Works Cited page
