Identify and describe the basic counseling strategies that you see Carl
Rogers using with Gloria.
arl Rogers strategies began before Gloria even arrived for the
session by setting up the appropriate conditions. Carl does this by
being genuine at all times and what he feels internally also shows
externally and this allowing Gloria to relate to Carl. Being open and
praising of Gloria for participating in the session. And being open to
see the situation and issues in the “world” of Gloria to understand
why she feels the ways that she does and in turn allow to address
the issues and find fixes. With all these then Gloria may herself be
able to make the changes necessary to fix the problems that she is
facing
n your assessment, how effective were these techniques in beginning
this therapeutic alliance?
n my assessment i think that Carl actively listening to Gloria and not
interrupting Gloria allowed for her to get to the root of what is the
real issue which in this case was lying to her 9-year-old daughter
and that Carl would not answer Glorias question for her but instead
was working toward getting Gloria to see the right answer. As well
Gloria worries that she may lose her daughter due to the secrets
that she has been keeping of seeing other men after her divorce.
Carl tried to help guide Gloria to the answer to her guilt as she
continued to deflect to Carl for the issue of lying to Pammy and
embracing herself and that she does not need to always be nice and
sweet woman. And finally, I think that Gloria reflects to her own
childhood that was affected by the same situation as a child and not
wanting to do the same to her children.
