Research presentation
Description
As you have learned in our first unit, research is incredibly important and has played a direct role in our understanding of development, cognition, and behavior. As a general example, research helps us understand what makes people think, feel, and act in certain ways; allows us to categorize psychological disorders in order to understand the symptoms and impact on the individual and society; helps us to understand how intimate relationships, development, schools, family, peers, and religion affect us as individuals and as a society; and helps us to develop effective treatments to improve the quality of life of individuals and groups. Whether studying memory, disorders, intelligence, or perception, it all involves research. For this assignment, you will put on a researchers hat on and create a research presentation.
For this assignment, you will complete the following:
1. Come up with a research question (or choose one from below) to answer that pertains to psychology or development
2. Conduct research (select at least four credible sources that are published within the last 10 years and answer your research question based on what you’ve read/found). You will create a PPT presentation to share your findings.
Create a PowerPoint Presentation that includes the following structure:
SLIDE 1: Research Question
SLIDE 2: Why you decided to investigate your chosen topic (if it’s something that interests you? If so, why does it interest you?)
SLIDE 3: Discuss your methodology (How did you go about finding your sources? Which websites or search engines did you use? Was there any particular criteria you established?)
SLIDE 4: Based on the information you found from each of the articles, what overall conclusion can you draw? In essence, what is the answer to the question? (Be sure to reference your articles)
- SLIDE 5: What are the implications? In other words, in what way is the answer to your research question relevant? Who does it impact and why is it important?
- SLIDE 6: References/ sources used
Sample research questions (remember, you can create your own research question–you don’t have to pick from this list below):
