Chapter 13 highlights several types of problematic workplace
relationships involving bosses, coworkers, and subordinates. Whether
work-based or personal, relationships have their ups and downs,
strengths and weaknesses. Those involved need to have the space to
discuss those weaknesses to improve the health of the relationship.
When we work in groups, as we most often do in the workplace, the
interdependence of our roles and responsibilities can bring struggles
over our differences to the forefront.
This activity creates an interactive discussion where you can share your
knowledge, skills and insights regarding small group communication,
power and leadership by applying it to your observations in the film 12
Angry Men.
Here is an online link to the film (1957 version):

Watch the movie at least once before participating in this
discussion.
After watching the film on your own (take notes; it helps), you will show
mastery of the course content by using course terminology appropriately
and making specific references to the textbook (especially chapter 13,
but all of the others connect as well). Explain how the incidents you
observed during the jury’s deliberations are informed by your courserelated learning.
The goal is to challenge and question each other as you would in an
academic conversation of the topic during a classroom discussion. Do
your best not to simply repeat or agree with what others have already
said. I will be monitoring the conversations as they take place.
