Multivariate Regression Worksheet
Description
The following table shows estimates from three different regressions, each based on data from the 2020 American National Election Study, where the dependent variable is feelings toward Joe Biden on a scale of 0 (most negative) to 100 (most positive). Each model includes a different set of independent variables, with dashes indicating that a certain variable is not included in a given model. Education (abbreviated as Edu in the table) is years of education each respondent has and Female is a dummy variable for respondents who
identify as female. Underneath each estimate is its standard error in parentheses. Be sure to pay attention to which models are referenced in each part of the question below. (Note that the sample size is quite large here so in all of the models shown you don have to worry about degrees of freedom for the t-statistic and can simply use the normal distribution here.)
(6) Based on Model 2 if we imagined increasing a manàeducation by 1 year, how much would we expect
their feelings toward Biden to change (and in what direction)?
(7) Based on Model 2 if we imagined increasing a womanàeducation by 1 year, how much would we
expect their feelings toward Biden to change (and in what direction)?
(8) Based on Model 2, what would be the predicted feelings toward Biden for a man with a college
degree (17 years of education)?
(9) Based on Model 2, what would be the predicted feelings toward Biden for a woman with a college
degree (17 years of education)?
