Paulaàcharacter has proven to be very resistant to change. She is still not comfortable when it comes to embracing the new EHR system. The õt group)n this episode is Paula because Sara may not directly identify with her. Paula is an old-school nurse, does not understand the EHR well, and seems to be apprehensive about any change in the work environment. Sara can encourage Paula to display n-group#haracteristics by motivating her to be excited about the new EHR system, reassuring her that age does not influence how she performs, and incorporating more team bonding. By writing Paula up, she acknowledges that a mistake was made, but this also helps her to offer Paula guidance into not making the same mistake again. She empathizes with Paula by expressing an understanding of mistakes being made when new changes arise but points out that Paula has gotten through change before and can do it again. Throughout this episode, Sara displays transformational leadership qualities by considering each of her team members feelings, providing inspiration and support to her peers, and coaching when staff need to be redirected. She also expresses openness to suggestions by peers for improvements in the clinical setting. When Sara first became charge nurse it was evident she wa sin the stranger phase of relationship development when the leader and the follower do not really know each other at all. I believe now she is in the acquaintanceship phase, where she is getting to know her peers on a more social and personal level, especially with Paula, to which it helps Sara in being a much better leader (YouTube, 2020).

In this weekàdiscussion we are going to talk about the LMX theory also known as Leader-Member Exchange Theory regarding an episode of Saving Sara with Paula. This episode shows an n-group!nd õt-group7here Paula is showing characteristics of the õt-group!s she refused to learn the new EMR system. She went ahead and avoided conversations regarding this change, and she believes that the current system is perfectly fine and does not need to be changed. Paula is also a believer that a nurse comes with her years of experience rather than a type of EMR system that is used. However, as you can see in this scenario, she was wrong and ended up making a huge mistake with a patient. Paula failed to insert a medication she had given to one of her patients, eading to another nurse named Kenny who viewed the chart and saw that the medication was never given. This caused the patient to get double the medication leading to respiratory depression. Sara in the ïach Paula(ad to go ahead and speak to Paula regarding the error that was made and showed her respect since she is a very experienced nurse. She went ahead and gave Paula a warning and set up for them to go over the new EMR system together. On the other hand, )scipline Paula7as very strict, gave Paula a write up instead making her to also must do an incident report on the patient who got respiratory depression. Anger and disappointment were showed to Paula from Sara causing her to feel real pain from her error. I believe and prefer the ïach Paula3cenario was the best way to handle this situation. We all make errors and here was thankfully a small error and her showing respect and showing a leader position was the best thing.
