BACKGROUND
This project is to be worked in teams of one to six. In general, you are to choose a problem involving an
engineering material application that experiences some type of load(s) and subsequent stress(es). You
will apply your knowledge of engineering and engineering materials to research, select and justify the
optimum material for your application. The problem may contain real or assumed forces, stresses, fatigue
limits, corrosion limits, environment, size and weight limitations, cost, etc.
Two page summary report to include the following (due by end of class Friday 12-2-2022)

Introduction (include detailed description of the problem with sketches/pictures as
appropriate)

Results and Discussion
1. An engineering analysis of component loads, and resultant stresses,
dimensions, fatigue, fracture mechanics considerations, environmental considerations,
corrosion and other mechanical and physical property limitations. Include pictures,
detailed sketches, free body diagrams, etc. Include costs. Calculations will be included
in the report in proper appendices.
