Aloe, specifically aloe vera, is a succulent plant similar to a cactus that prospers in hot and dry climates and provides numerous benefits, especially those related to skin (NCCIH, 2020). These plants are typically found in the desert climate of the Southwest United States as they do not require an excessive amount of water to grow however, the state of Florida also produces this species. Aloe provides skin treatment for burns and other wounds or blemishes, such as acne. This plays an essential role in the ecosystem based off the location of where the plant grows. Humans found in the same climate as these plants are more likely to use it due to the increased chance of sunburns. Aloe is found in many sunscreen and after-sun products meant to soothe and heal the skin. The plant can also be peeled and applied right onto the skin, resulting in a cooling and healing sensation. When taken orally, aloe has also been shown to aid in the treatment of diabetics and weight-loss measures (NCCIH, 2020). While animals may not benefit from this species as humans do, aloe provides multiple skin and burn treatment remedies than can be taken right from the plant without having to go through an intricate production process.
