For this essay, you will have two options:

A: Pick two speeches from the “Speech Pool” . Write a paper arguing which of the two speeches is more effective.

B: Pick one speech from the “Speech Pool” to give an in-depth rhetorical analysis of.

In either case, focus your analysis on comparing the respective rhetorician’s appeals to Pathos, Ethos, and Logos– citing specific examples from the text, and examining how effective those appeals are in achieving the rhetorician’s purpose. Comparisons of the pieces should also take into account the rhetorical situations and audiences the rhetorician is engaged with. (This may require you to do a quick bout of research on the speech.) Remember, you are NOT saying whether or not you agree with the argument. Instead, you¥ discussing how the rhetorician makes that argument and whether or not the approach used is successful in achieving their goals.
