Description
Classmates Post
Windows 10 allows users to customize their desktop preferences.
For the purpose of this discussion, consider a scenario where you manage more than 100 Windows 10 devices and are asked to provide input on allowing users to customize items such as the Start Menu.
- What settings should you allow users to change, and what settings should be controlled by the system administrator?
- What are the advantages and disadvantages?
- How does the industry of the organization play a role in your answer
If I managed a pool of windows 10 desktop machines, there are some features at the desktop level that I would restrict access to by default. The first feature I would prevent my user from modifying is the battery and sleep settings. This prevents users from leaving their machines powered on and damaging their batteries due to improper use. Another feature I would lock down is the network adapter properties under network and security. This would prevent my users from making unnecessary network configuration changes to their machines. Also, I would prevent the users from installing apps on the internet without administrator approval and credentials. This is an easy way for users’ machines to install malware. Some of the advantages of users not being to make changes to their machines is fewer issues would arise due to something being changed. The disadvantage is that users would have to reach out to the help desk whenever they wanted software installed or wanted to make a configuration change.
