the post :
- As a society and part of the community, I believe that itàsuper powerful knowledge if everyone was at-least a little bit aware of the opioid crisis and how it affects the body. The medical community should offer free classes about the opioid crisis and what to do if they find someone who has overdosed. Last semester, I thought it was amazing that students were given the opportunity to be trained on how to use Narcan. I feel that the medical community should offer this opportunity to everyone especially because we are in an opioid crisis.
- Ultimately, people are going to need opioid for pain but if more people are educated on the effects of addiction and withdrawal during their hospital stays then I feel that maybe people would be more aware of how often they are taking their medications. Some people abuse the medication for a pain scale that can be controlled with Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
- I don think that itàthe drug company to blame. They do their job at making the drug have the proper effect on the body so that the individual isn in any pain. Itàup to the person taking the drug to know of the effects and possibility of addiction. The company can only educate so much on their products, but itàthe useràresponsibility and fault at the end of the day.
- A pain mill is a facility that gives out opioid-prescribed pain medication to patients without actually diagnosing them. The pain mills resemble a pain clinic, but is prescribing painkillers without enough information to give to the patient. This results in uncontrolled substance abuse that shouldn have started from the beginning. The patient could have tried a high dose of a non-opioid pain killer, but wasn thoroughly examined by the doctor at the pain mill. Once a pain mill is started, and then abruptly closed, the patients that received their painkillers at that facility are going to look for ways outside of the facility to get their pain killers. These drugs could easily be laced and cause harm to the patient suffering from withdrawal.
- The documentary does an amazing job at showing the effects of addiction from the patients point of view as well as those on the outside. I feel that some people believe that addiction is a choice, but it is evident that itànot. The body becomes wired to need a substance and acts out of line if that substance is absent. Itàeasy to blame the user on the outside, but when you are looking at addiction from the user it becomes a different perspective.
