PURPOSE

The purpose of this assignment is to allow you to the understand dynamic
and varied field of human resources management (HRM) through a review of
a current library and electronic resources. The assignment is designed to
increase your learning about human resources management by examining
current and topical issues relating to the field. The assignment will also
provide an exposure to the many information resources available to todayÊHR professional and relate to the class material. You must link the articles to
a topic that is related to concepts in the textbook chapters.

Context of Assignment.
Spend some time finding good quality interesting articles.
Assignment Hint DON just use Google, use the library and learn how to use
the Databases to obtain high quality academic and interesting articles.
GUIDELINES
Use Georgian College Library databases or journals, or you may use other sources.
Don not just use Google and download a non-academic or article someoneàblog.
Locate two (2) current articles about the field of human resources management. These
should be published works in a professional journal (at least 3 pages in length). Make
sure the article is not too short for example a newspaper or blog article is not
acceptable.
You must use at two different sources of information to conduct your research.
Each of the articles needs to address a different functional area of HRM. For example:
HR planning, retirement, recruitment and selection and labour relations, future trends
in HR, the strategic role of HRM, training and development, compensation, human
resources planning, the future of work.

Review the articles, highlight the articles and prepare a brief summary of each article
(max 250 words). It has to be a concise critical commentary on the article. It is not just
a regurgitation of the article. (This is very challenging to do, it is not an easy
assignment).
In your own words, provide a summary of the major points that are made in the article.
If using definitions or terms from the article, be sure to reference the authors of the
article directly (as opposed to appearing to have written these yourself).
A copy summary needs to be submitted in a word-processed document with the title,
author and source of the article identified in sub-titles.
Once you have completed the professional summary of the article; you need to
complete a one-page reflection of your learning. Again you should be expanding your
knowledge of HR from this assignment, do not just state what was in the article, you
have done that in the article summary. The learning summary you explain:

You are in second term and it is expected that you are able to write a professional report. Here
is some information on how to structure the Article Review Report.

Article summary must be in proper sentence and paragraph form, not just bullet points.
Start with an introduction paragraph. The article summary should have a solid introduction that
tells the reader what to expect or what you are going to present in this article summary. Then
the report must have a main body of information which includes the information you want your
professor to know about this article. Complete the article review with a conclusion that
concisely sums everything you said in a couple of sentences.
The second part is a one-page reflection of what you have learned about HR from this
assignment. Two important points to remember: first only one refection paper on the
assignment, do not do a reflection for each article. The goal is to show you can consolidate your
learning, and two, do not regurgitate information from the article. If you do the above the
reflection paper will earn a mark of zero.
Also make sure you submit the report on time.
