Part A: Answer both of these questions
1. Explain how Reich views government’s role in the economy in “Saving Capitalism”. Where
are points that you agree and the points that you disagree with this approach and why?
2. Fear of large/overly powerful government is core to American ideology.

b. How did the founders structure government to prevent government (or part of
government) from getting too strong?
c. How does this play out in our ideas about government today and the current function of
government?
Part B: Answer one of these questions
1. We talked a lot about how our views in the U.S. about whether government intervention is
the best way to help citizens and our society. Walk through how our views on government as
(e answer3hift through American history.
2. Public administrationàfounders thought that you could divide politics and
administration. Discuss the challenges to this idea, and how we now think about the
relationship between politics and administration.
3. An important conversation in public administration is about how much discretion to give
bureaucrats, and how elected officials can control/monitor bureaucrats. Discuss these ideas.
4. Discuss ways that public administration evolved along with the civil rights movement,
specifically addressing how we view diversity in government, public sector values, and
bureaucrat’s role in representation.
