A Tale of Love and Fallout
As Marie Curie said, “a scientist never knows what he has found until it is lost.” Imagine
being the woman who discovered radioactivity but then had to give up her husband and children
as she pursued her discovery. Imagine also being the man who loved her through all that
suffering)erre Curie. Or even being a child of theirs at the time, witnessing them discover
something so powerful and then witnessing their family disintegrate. This book tells that story.
It’s a historical fiction novel about those two scientists and their stubbornness and passion for
science in the face of tragedy. Marie boldly goes after her discovery while Pierre protects her
from worldly ills. Their love story is inspiring and tragic at the same time. I do not usually read
novels, but this one blew me away. I like how the events are all true accounts, with a few
Hollywood-style imaginations thrown in. The pictures in this book bring history to life. Through
it all, my heart ached for Marie and Pierre’s children, who are torn between two worlds: the
world of science and their parents, and the ordinary world of school, where their friends seem to
be having fun without a care in the world. As I read this book, it makes me stop and think about
what I want from life. Marie’s life proves that your passion for and love of science can help you
get far in life, but at the same time, it can hurt you. One might end up losing his or her family
and friends forever. I started reading this book because I like science and history, but at the same
time, it made me question why I like science so much. This book is an inspiration for kids and
adults out there to follow their dreams, no matter how crazy they may be.
This book is about the lives of Marie and Pierre Curie, a French scientist couple who
made a discovery in 1894 that led to the first atom splitting. The relationship between the two is
not one that you would usually see portrayed in either fictional or non-fictional works about
them. However, this book makes for an interesting read with its detailing of their lives; it’s more
telling than it is telling us what the words should say. It tells us who these people were and what
the characters went through in order to make some of the most groundbreaking discoveries ever
made by humanity. This book is not easy to follow at first. I had no idea when the story was
really going to start; it seems quite dark and distant at first, and then lingers on a bit too long
with details that you might consider unnecessary. The book is told from Marie Curie’s point of
view, but it does not seem very Marie-like. Redniss does her best with pacing and tone, but it’s
difficult to tell who’s going through what. There are never more than two characters speaking in
the same chapter, so it’s hard to tell who’s saying what; both characters are telling their stories in
different ways.
The book is about the lives of Marie and Pierre Curie, who are credited with developing
the science of radioactivity. Their discovery became fundamental to cancer research, medicine,
and modern nuclear power. This interesting book offers a glimpse into some of the trials that they
had to endure in their time, as well as some of the accomplishments that they achieved.
Therefore, I will discuss what I find interesting about the book. First, it is interesting that Marie
Curieàdiscovery of radium led to her death. The book says that Marie Curie died of aplastic
anemia due to radiation exposure. The doctors told her that if she had not been exposed to so
much radiation, she would have lived for an average of sixty more years. She was only 64 years
old when she died. She died in 1934 and left behind two daughters and a husband. Six years after
her death, Pierre Curie also passed away because of a stroke he suffered while he was recovering
from an operation to repair a broken hip. I think it is extremely tragic that Marie Curie died early
because she had so many dreams and goals to achieve, but I think she was a very determined
person. She did not give up easily, and I think that made a huge difference in her life. Second, it
is interesting to learn about the lives of the Curies and how their lives changed because of the
work they did in the laboratory. The book says that Marie and Pierreàunusual strengths as a
couple were their complementary skills, which they used well in their research. The characters
had a great partnership in the process of conducting research.
