Sometimes in critical analysis, you must argue that a specific theme is relevant to understanding the literary work. In this essay, your task will be to choose an appropriate theme for one of the works below. Through careful analysis is of the text, you must demonstrate that theme is present to the text and important to gaining insight into literary work. Choose one of the following combinations on which to write your paper:

• Process:  In critical analysis, your objective is to argue for your interpretation of the text. Your thesis statement will be the guiding idea throughout your paper. For this paper, you will want to make your stance clear in arguing that the theme you choose is present within the literary work and significant in terms of understanding the text. 

Support all your assertions with textual evidence either as direct quotations or concise summary. You should have at least three supporting examples, and explain how these prove your interpretation (remember, setting is often relevant to the deeper theme of the piece). Don speculate on the text or add details that aren there.
