Introduction
Project statement
For every 13 people in the U.S. 1 person has asthma and the severity
can range from mild (barely any symptoms) to severe (multiple
symptoms throughout the day).
The level to which asthma can affect a person’s daily life ranges from
a mild inconvenience to potentially life threatening and while a person
may not have control of all the environments they are exposed to,
people do have control over their home. People spend on average at
least ? rd of their life at home as we sleep every night, hence it is
important to make sure the home is free from as many asthma triggers
as possible. Regular cleanings can help reduce asthma triggers such as
dust, mites, mold, and certain chemicals, but different people have
different asthma triggers. Sometimes even the cleaning products used
may contain certain chemicals one is unaware of and to which one is
allergic to. In order to increase the quality of life for people with
asthma, it is important that these asthma triggers (more importantly
certain combinations of these triggers) be reduced as much as
possible.
Solution Concept
Our team is going to develop an asthma trigger detector a 5×5 box,
which will be installed in housing and facilities. This device will
contains different types of sensors that will help detect specifically
environmental asthma triggers. These sensors are going to be
connected to a rasberry pi, or an arduino. After the device is set-up
properly, the user of the device will be notified. Therefore, if there is
any changes in the air quality that may trigger asthma, the Icd screen
will show a message. Also, a sound can be made when an asthma
trigger is detected. In which will notify people in the building that
their condition asthma may be compromised. Thus, this
environmental asthma trigger device/detector is a great asset for
individuals with the health condition asthma.
? Detecting different kind of asthma triggers
? Having the device be accurate for longer
? Taking into account the level of humidity of the air to get more accurate
readings
? Having sensors that are more sensitive when thereàa higher level of other
pollutants
? Try and detect some chemicals that haven previously been detected.
