This is the challenge of your paper and this is where your skills of identification, description and interpretation will be very important.  The challenge is that most performances can serve many FUNCTIONS and ACCOMPLISH many things. Your job for the paper is to pick one performance and make an argument explaining a FUNCTION of the performance. WATCH VIDEO ATTACHED AND READ PDF AND ANSWER QUESTIONS IN DETAIL AND ACADEMICALLY.

To continue practicing this method of understanding human expression, watch “The Couple In The Cage” by Coco Fusco and Guillermo Gomez-PeF®bsp;and answer the following questions:

1) IDENTIFY – Explain what you are familiar with in the performance. 

2) DESCRIBE what can literally be seen or heard in the performance without applying any meaning to it. Remember this requires that you explain what happens without offering your judgment or interpretation. Describe clothing, color of clothing and how they are standing in the scene, background etc.

2) INTERPRET the performance. Explain the meaning and messages you think the performance is about.

3) FUNCTION – Theorize an argument about the FUNCTION of the performance to the wider culture or society. Explain what is ACCOMPLISHES.

4) READ PDF ATTACHED AND IN YOUR OWN WORDS, explain what Fusco’s reading this week argues is the FUNCTION of “The Couple In The Cage” (Explain WHAT she argues that it ACCOMPLISHES, in your own words)

5) Consider what you and what Fusco theorized about the FUNCTION of “The Couple In The Cage.” Choose one of those function and then find another performance that ACCOMPLISHES the same thing. Explain how that performance functions in the same way or accomplishes the same thing as “The Couple In The Cage” according to how you see it.
