GENDER/DESIRE: Does Dracula ultimately make a convincing argument for the liberation of gender and/or desire outside those models most commonly viewed as constituting the societal norm (if ¯rmfnbsp;British hetero marriage and procreation)? You might approach this question by considering Mina Harker, or Mina in contrast with the other women in the text (such as Lucy Westenra), or with a broader consideration of female desire, but you must include at least one other course text in your larger discussion. Note also that you might choose to focus on how the text does/does not endorse/critique masculinity. Or, you might choose to look at Count Dracula and moments where the text seems to indulge in his bloodlust. Itænbsp;up to you. While you advance your argument, your examples from the text should go beyond those we have considered in lecture. Finally, remember that your purpose is not to make a larger argument about Victorian England, but rather to illuminate how gender/desire functions in this text specifically.
