Throughout this course, I have felt as though I have become more and more confident in my analytical and writing abilities. Although I have taken several Master’s courses before this one, I feel as though my time in MIS542 has been more geared towards development of myself as an analyst. All of the assignments and discussion forums have provided me opportunities to learn more about what it means to be a business analyst, and how that translates to the organization(s) I work for. The most beneficial aspects of this course were definitely the combination of Python assignments, and the Portfolio Project assignments. The Python Critical Thinking assignments really provided me a great opportunity to practice functions I was not familiar with. And the Portfolio Project has helped me to think critically about the problems my organization may be facing, and how I can be part of a solution going forward. In the first discussion forum for this class, I reviewed Key Competencies needed to be an effective analyst. I believe I have worked on all of these competencies throughout my time in this course. I will look for more opportunities to expand my expertise in a wider variety of competencies as to ensure I reach the lofty expectations set for business analysts. My hope is that the experiences I have gained from this course will provide me with a framework to build a successful career in the analytics community.
