Assessment 5 Instructions: Draft of IRB Application If Required

If IRB deemed your project as human subjects research based on their evaluation of your Doctoral Capstone Screening Form, complete your draft IRB application. Download a PDF of your draft and submit it for your faculty member’s review and feedback. Do not formally submit the application to IRB until you have your instructor’s approval to officially submit the application to IRB. Finally, create a 4-5 minute video reflecting on the components of your IRB draft and explaining why you think it is ready for submission to the IRB. If required by your instructor, revise the IRB application and resubmit for Assessment 5.

If IRB deemed your project as not human subjects research based on their evaluation of your Doctoral Capstone Screening Form, submit the letter of determination provided by IRB for Assessment 5. Note that if IRB deemed your project as not human subjects research and not requiring IRB oversight, you have IRB approval to begin recruitment and data collection.

Introduction

Note: You must receive your determination letter based on IRB’s evaluation of your Doctoral Capstone Screening Form before proceeding to Assessment 5: Draft of the IRB Application. If IRB deemed your project as human subjects research requiring IRB oversight, you must now complete the full IRB Application and submit a PDF draft of the application for Assessment 5. If IRB deemed your project as not human subjects research, you have IRB approval and are not required to complete the full IRB application. You would submit your IRB letter of determination deeming your project as not human subjects research for Assessment 5.

If you are required to complete the full IRB Application, you will complete a draft to submit for Assessment 5 to obtain feedback from your instructor. Your instructor must review and approve your full IRB Application before you officially submit the application to IRB. If required by your instructor, resubmit the revised IRB Application draft for Assessment 5. Once you have your instructor’s approval, submit the application to IRB. As a reminder, ensure the content in your IRB application aligns precisely with your capstone project proposal and check to make sure all supportive documentation is included per IRB guidelines.

If the determination from IRB’s evaluation of your project based on the Doctoral Capstone Screening Form was that your project was deemed human subjects research and requires IRB oversight, log in to IRB Manager and review the instructions to complete the IRB Application. Note: If the determination from IRB’s evaluation of your project based on the Doctoral Capstone Screening Form was that your project was deemed not human subjects research and does not require IRB oversight, you have IRB approval to begin recruitment and data collection; therefore, you do not need to complete the full IRB Application.
