Discussion:
While at a telecommunications company (several years ago) I worked within a team that utilized geospatial sales data to determine nearby customers we could potentially sell too. This type of analysis took into account two major data points the route the new fiber would take and the available customers along that route broken into several categories. The results of this data were then fed into financial analysis which accompanied ever enterprise style sale so that the company could decide if offering a discount to the current customer was warranted (the thought process here being that if we sold to the customer, we would more cheaply be able to sell internet services along the newly established route). This analysis was very advantageous for my old company as what would be very expensive capital investments (thus higher monthly prices for the customer) could be divided out to all possible customer along a route thereby allow a lower monthly price and a more competitive selling position. This is still one of the most impressive analytically driven competitive advantages I have witnessed.
