Vehicle control in the context of connected and automated vehicles involves many
subsystems and the corresponding logic to ensure safety. For car following, we have
discussed three types of speed control, Standard (used today), ACC, and CACC. In this
assignment, each group will conduct a simulation study to investigate the effectiveness of
ACC and CACC and then compare their performance when they are followed to control
vehicular gaps.
Using the equations and logic discussed in class, simulate the car following behavior
(speed and gap control) based on the ACC and CACC models. You may use Matlab to do
the calculation and graphics or choose to use Excel for the computation and curve plots.
Use a small time step (e.g., 0.1 second) to update the speed and gap and apply the
control logic repetitively.
