Research paper topic: Social Learning Theory in Reducing Crime Rates in the United States.
Social learning theory emphasizes on impacts of observing, imitating, and modeling behavior in
a person (Chappell & Piquero, 2004). The study shall identify the causes of crime in society and discuss
how it affects the criminal justice system. After identifying the causes and impacts of crime in society,
the paper will discuss different ways of utilizing the social learning theory to identify methods of
reducing criminal behaviors. Many people get involved in crime after they observe criminals who are not
punished for their defiant behaviors in society. They end up imitating these behaviors and continue
committing the crime. Through the research paper impacts of social learning theory in reducing crime in
the United States will be assessed. The study shall also explore how law enforcement agencies utilize
their knowledge of social learning theory to reduce crimes or arrest and investigate criminal activities in
society. Importance of educating the public on using the theory to help the police identify suspicious
criminal behaviors will be examined. More so, since some law enforcement officers have been involved
in misconduct that negatively affects the administration of justice in the criminal justice system, the
need to utilize the social behavior theory in handling the misconduct will be assessed. With increasing
cases of police misconduct in the United States, it will be vital to look at the factors that influence these
law enforcers into engaging in misconduct, especially in crime. Effects of police misconduct in handling
crime in the United States shall be examined to provide insight into how to ensure such issues are
effectively addressed. Finally, the research shall recommend measures to be put in place to reduce the
crime rate in the United States. These measures will depend on the findings from different reports on
how social learning theory has been utilized in different states to help the criminal justice system in its
operations and success.
