technologies and how those choices over the last fifty years have included filing antitrust
cases against technology companies past and present. But I also feel that it would be
good to take a step back from the legal battles to look at the social and personal
implications of social media in general and internet searching in particular. To frame our
discussion, I’d like to use the 2020 Netflix movie, The Social Dilemma, a film that
presents a particular point of view which you may or may not agree with.
After reviewing the needed sources, write a 200-word or more essay that considers the
following questions (and be sure to include a short direct quote from two sources):
? What concerns for individual users do the film and other sources describe in
terms of internet search and social media?
? What broader social concerns do the film and other sources describe in terms
of search and social media?
? What are some of the limitations of the film from other people’s perspectives?
? Do the film’s concerns about Internet search and social media resonate with
you from a personal perspective? There is no right or wrong answer to this
question–it’s your opinion.
? What else would you like to say, if anything, about the subject?
