Getting Started
God is our single point of contact when praying. We can also say ïd, through Jesus.ame, let the Holy Spirit fill me with the joy and thankfulness to serve you. e can pray about our physical or spiritual needs. In praying for over 50 years, this writer finds that prayers dealing with the spirit are answered more quickly than for physical needs. There are many scriptures that speak to praying. Matthew and James are examples of how to pray. The DiscipleàPrayer (often called the LordàPrayer) in Matthew 6:9-13 provides a great model for what we should include when we pray.
nd when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words” (English Standard Version, 2011/2016, Matthew 6:7).
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” (English Standard Version, 2011/2016, James 5:16).
Pray then like this: õr Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. (English Standard Version, 2011/2016, Matthew 6:9-13).
If it has been a while since you last prayed, you may want to consider taking some intentional time today to do so. Not only does it calm our hearts and reassure our minds, but often God gives helpful insights and/or perspectives which can help guide our thinking and actions throughout the day.
And if this is all new to you and you haven experienced the life-changing joy of having a relationship with Jesus (or just need help navigating lifeàchallenges), we encourage you to reach out to our dedicated SpiritCare (new tab) chaplains.
