Columbus State University Caregiving Discussion
Description
behavioral and social science research can be tricky for several reasons, one of them being that we’re often studying concepts that could be defined several different ways. For example, when we consider how to define “caregiver”, we could focus on the types of tasks a person helps with, the amount of time the person spends helping, whether or not that person considers themselves a caregiver, and whether or not the person being helped considers that person a caregiver. Any of those are potentially valid operational definitions for what a “caregiver” is. However, in order to do valid research, we have to have clear operational definitions of terms like these.
