ABSTRACT (max. 300 words)
Delete all highlighted text/instructions before submitting report.
An abstract is a brief summary of the experiment. Write a 1-paragraph abstract (max. 10
sentences) at the beginning of your report that addresses the following items:
a. What was the main experiment and/or objective?
b. What were the key techniques used to accomplish the objective?
c. Was the experiment successful? If not, indicate what went wrong. Summarize the
results/outcome.
d. Highlight anything else that could be informative to your readers.
INTRODUCTION (max. 500 words)
An introduction provides the reader with background information for the experiment and
elaborates on the abstract. There is no hard rule for writing an introduction and different people
will focus on different aspects. The core components should include or answer:
a. Something interesting about the experiment that would be relevant to the general
audience. This should interest the readers to continue reading your report or
article. Basically, why should the readers care?
b. The purpose/objective(s)/hypothesis of the experiment. Include reaction
schemes.
c. What experiment(s) or technique(s) are used to accomplish the objective?

Use the Equations tab if needed: [Insert] ? [Equation]
EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE1 (max. 500 words)
The experimental procedures are written in the past tense in paragraph form. It should contain
enough detail such that someone at the same level as you would be able to replicate the
experiment and outcomes without relying on any other sources. This includes the amount(s) of
reagents used, the time required for the experiment or until something happened (e.g., a
precipitate formed approximately 30 seconds after the addition of silver nitrate), exact
manipulations carried out, and any modifications to the lab manual procedures (whether
intended or accidental). No credit will be given for simply copying the experimental procedures
from the lab manual. Write in the third person.
No need to describe how flasks are preweighed/tared. This is assumed.
RESULTS & DISCUSSION
Write in essay/paragraph format while addressing the following items. Do not number 1, 2, 3,
etc.
CONCLUSIONS
The conclusion to the lab report is a short, 1-paragraph summary of the outcome(s) of the
experiment. In 4`sentences, summarize the results and conclude whether the experiments
were successful. If unsuccessful, provide a rationale in 1 sentences and include what can be
done to improve on the experiment for future experimentations.
