CC Data Entry and Computations in SPSS Project
Description
You are also responsible for completing data entry and computations in SPSS. You may complete the analyses covered in the SPSS video tutorials (located in the module) or use SPSS to calculate problems from the chapter questions at the end of each chapter in the textbook. Most students do a combination of both.
Part 1:
Please take pictures of 2 to 3 pages of by-hand homework completed from the questions at the end of this week’s assigned chapters.
Part 2:
Please take 2 to 3 screenshots of work completed in SPSS this week.
Merge the photos and screenshots into one file and submit it.

Chi-Square and Other
Nonparametric Tests
Parametric Versus
Nonparametric
? Parametric tests have assumptions
that must be met. These assumptions
rest on population parameters, such
as a normal distribution.
? Nonparametric tests have fewer
assumptions and can be used to
analyze ordinal or nominal data.
TYPE OF DATA
Nominal
Ordinal
Number of Samples

Chi-Square
Are the samples
Independent OR Correlated
Mann-Whitney U
Wilcoxon T
Kruskal-Wallis
Chi-Square
? Nominal data
? Compare the observed frequencies in
different categories (actual numbers
obtained) with the frequencies expected
from some theory or hypothesis.
Assumptions for Chi-Square
? Sample is randomly selected from
the population.
? All observations are independent
(one observation per participant).
? Limited to nominal data.
? Less accurate with very small data.
Expected frequencies should not be
less than 5.
The Mann-Whitney U Test
? Tests two independent samples.
? Can be used on any independent
two-sample data sets that can be
ranked.
Wilcoxon T Test
? Used to test differences between
two correlated samples.
? Can be used for any correlated
samples where differences can be
ranked.
Kruskal-Wallis Test
? Similar to Mann-Whitney U but
extends to more than two
independent groups.
?
Can be used with independent
samples with three or more means
in which differences can be ranked.
