Assignment: You are to provide a 5-8 page survey of a modern application of operations
research methods and algorithms. Your survey should fully explain the problem, its
importance, the methods used to solve it, and possible extensions of this work. You will be
graded on both the quality of your description and your writing.
Structure: Your survey should have the following distinct sections:
1. Problem Introduction: You should introduce the problem and explain its importance.
2. Mathematical Statement/Model: You should elaborate and explain the mathematical
model of the problem. Your description should explain why the practitioners chose
their formulation.
3. Solution Methods: You should explain the methods used to solve the optimization
problem described in the previous section. Your description should explain why the
practitioners selected these methods/algorithms.
4. Results: You should describe the results of this application. Was it as successful as
anticipated? Are there remaining questions? Explain how these questions might be
answered in the future.
5. Bibliography
