Lecture Assignment 3 Make a table for the Spinal Nerves to address learning objectives
4 & 6 of LO Section XI on pages 24µ:
4. Explain how the spinal nerves are named, and give the number of pairs of spinal nerves attached
to each of the following areas of the spinal cord: cervical, thoracic(intercostal), lumbar, sacral,
coccygeal. There are 31 pairs of spinal nerves in total grouped regionally by spinal region, 8
cervical nerve pairs (C1-C8), 12 thoracic nerve pairs (T1-T12), 5 lumbar nerve pairs (L1-L5), 5
sacral nerve pairs (S1-S5), and 1 coccygeal nerve pair (Co1).
6. Describe the plexuses formed by the anterior (ventral) rami by discussing the following:
a. define plexus
b. name, locate, and identify the area supplied by each of the following: cervical plexus,
brachial plexus, lumbar plexus, sacral plexus & coccygeal plexus
