Linear Regression
Research has revealed an association between online social media use and mental
health symptoms such as anxiety among emerging adults (Vannucci, Flannery, & Ohannessian,
2017).
You decide to run your own study on a sample of female Cal Poly Students (N =10). You
first ask them to report their total social media site usage for a single day (in minutes), including
Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook and any other social media site. You then have them complete the
Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A, Hamilton, 1959). Scoring information and the complete
assessment can be found here: https://dcf.psychiatry.ufl.edu/files/2011/05/HAMILTONANXIETY.pdf
For the following data, run a regression analysis first by hand and report the regression
equation. Next, graph the data by hand and use your regression equation to draw the trend
line. Now complete this analysis on SPSS to check your work and answer the question: Is social
media site (SMS) use a good (significant) predictor of anxiety? Include ONE document with the
following: your executive summary (report descriptive statistics, r, r2, and t statistic to show
whether SMS is a significant predictor), graph, SPSS annotated output, and calculations with
your submission.
