The statement refers to the idea that oneàidea of an ethical dilemma may not be much of an issue to another person. Like all individuals, we each have a perspective that is uniquely our own for various situations based on the experiences we have faced, our upbringing, or our perceptions. As nurses, we must take time to reflect on the situation at hand and act in accordance with our duty to the patient rather than our own viewpoints (Butts & Rich, 2016).

An ethical dilemma I have faced is regarding code status. I have had many patients who have terminal diagnoses or worsening prognoses, yet because the patient lacked an advanced directive, many family members who may not understand the gravity of the situation opt to keep their loved one a full code. While as nurses we must act with beneficence, we also know the situation regarding a patientàprognosis when conferring with multiple interdisciplinary physicians, managing drips often, and repeatedly seeing them fail to progress in a meaningful manner health-wise. It is not our decision to make when it comes to taking care of patients and we must act accordingly based on a patientàcode status when it comes to emergent care. Often, I may hear nurses say that it is a áste of resources/r áste of time4o take care of patients like this, which I do not agree with. Despite our viewpoint on the patient, we must respect the wishes of the decision maker and understand that this is a family member or loved one that they must make decisions for. At the end of the day, I take care of my patients and focus on them rather than think about the outside noise.
