The Choreographer Emotions and Ideas Discussion Questions
Question Description
I’m working on a history discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
In past discussions (last semester) most students agreed that an audienceàresponse to an art form maybe influenced by culture, social climate, age, gender, education, and many other factors. Moving forward in this course, try to be aware of how these concepts sway your own opinion about the dances you observe. When describing your dance video for the below discussion observe your own tendencies in describing dance. Did you describe the dance, or did you provide value judgments regarding the work?
Using the course textbook and your own opinion create a statement regarding the provided questions. Think carefully about how you wish to write about the art of movement. One could approach the conversation from an athletic or artist perspective since dance is a blend of art and science. In this discussion try to communicate your perspective regarding the role of a dance choreographer as an artist and an athlete.
1. What are some “abstract” concepts you might use to create a dance? (0r) What are some current themes, or issues that you could work with to create a dance that is based more in your reality or has a storyline about your life?
2. Are choreographers born or made? Nature vs. Nurture? Explain your theory
3. Last, embed one piece of choreography you believe embodies the most important elements of T/S/E. Please select a choreographer that you admire and believe consistently produces quality work. Give a brief description of the choreographer(s) such as thier name and primary contributions to dance. Explain which elements of Time, Space, and Energy shined through your selected dance work. Please give detailed examples regarding your selected work of choreography. You may select a choreographer from any time period and dance genre.
4. Please provide a label above the video with the dance genre it represents. For example: Urban Bachata, Romantic Ballet, Folk Dance, Ritual Dance, Ballroom Dance: Tango, etc/p>
