Final Reflective Essay
In my experience, I used to struggle to find the meaning of a writer’s meaning in essays
and articles. However, since taking this class, I have been involved in a reading process to find a
clear sentence connection to understand what the writer is saying, making me more sensitive
towards the author’s ideas. Moreover, my writing has improved too. I enjoyed this course
because it gave me the time to learn and be able to utilize the skills that anyone needs to
accomplish goals for writing. One skill is getting into a writing plan with the template map. This
skill is the most important because it helps me to think and plan my writing before I begin the
writing process. Then, I proofread the sentence based on the text because it shows what the
reader or an audience would say about the article, which explains where the evidence supports
the text to connect to the sentence and to enhance the clarity of this paragraph. My writing skills
were clear, but now the structure helps me more with a paragraph in the essay or summary. I
have grown as a student of English in the first half of this course because my reading has
improved through new vocabulary and my ability to comprehend different types of learning;
additionally, my writing has progressed through my instructor’s feedback, and I am working on
an organization to develop my structure of sentences.
My reading has improved through finding new vocabulary words and learning about
comprehension through annotations. I had a lot of time to read the text multiple times, so I could
understand more about the author and the intended audience of each text. This allows me as a
reader to understand how to write similarly when I am aware of how the author writes for a
specific audience. I was brainstorming on my reading assessment because I needed to reread
multiple times, which helped me with the author’s argument of the text. It is important to go over
the author’s elements and the claim they discussed. My strength was the strategy of focus
because I needed to think about the article with an author’s argument. I feel that I can use what I
learned this semester to improve my reading strategies and learn all the things that I would be
able to use in my future at this level of comprehension.
My writing has progressed because I always receive the instructor’s feedback, which
helps me determine how to organize the words into coherent sentences. I have learned about my
writing process during this semester. I was prepared to use the materials because it required to
show as the course lectures given are the resources, so I will remember to follow these notes that
guide this material. It helps when I practice these knowledge skills in this English course. My
weakness was being disorganized in my writing because it was hard to see how my sentences
could connect to each other and flow, but I practiced writing throughout the semester, which
helped me become a better writer. I now feel more confident that I can build my sentence
structure for a summary or essay.
My growth as a college student was that I embraced receiving a good effort by having an
example of an individual assignment. That time might be when you can decide on the course to
help you learn and motivate yourself. I was preparing for the course lecture that the instructors
required. For example, I learned that google docs save documents for writing assignments or
learning activities to ensure the tools students. I wanted to configure any assignments to show the
work such as writing for homework. I was excited about this course because I needed to focus on
these skills to put this assessment and get me to brainstorm an idea for paper drafts.
Overall, I have improved as a student of English in the first half of this course because
my reading, writing, and organization skills have gotten better. I expect to focus on the part
where the sentence structure of future writing activities is to ensure that my sentences are clear.
As for reading, I’ve learned skills that help me clarify what the writing is about, like if it’s an
argument, what the main idea is or a if it’s a story, what the plot is. As a reader, I could
understand similarities that give more to how each paragraph connects. Many students can
succeed in writing by utilizing resources such as tutoring, but most students are focused on
reading articles that can help them without seeking resources so they may not fully understand
the subject or structure. However, using more resources makes me clearly understand. For
example, when I read the story about the mindset, that helped me understand that growth and
fixed mindsets are the key elements to keep success once I am motivated. I am responsible for
working more to practice learning comprehensively in writing and reading. In the first half of
this course, I have improved my writing as a knowledge skill, my vocabulary and learning
comprehension, and I am working on sentence organization to build my reading and writing
skills.
