create a map and timeline of the Ottoman Empire.
2. Analyze: Answer questions about the influence of Islam and the Ottoman
Empire in different regions around the world.

Part 1: Creating Your Timeline
Using the content of this course and the web links below, create a timeline of the key
events and individuals associated with the Ottoman Empire. Your timeline must have
15 separate entries including:

10 major events (must include the reign of Sryman the Magnificent)
wo cause-and-effect relationships indicated by connecting arrows. For example,
the Ottoman siege of Constantinople led to the establishment of the Ottoman

Part 1: Creating Your Map
Using the content of the course and the websites above, create a map of the
Ottoman Empire at its height or its greatest geographic extent. Your map must
include:
title and dates (years at which the empire was at its greatest geographic
extent)
clear outline of the full extent of the empire at this time
t least three key cities (must include Constantinople/Istanbul)
t least three major oceans or seas
t least three key locations where conflicts happened
t least three mosques not located in Istanbul
t least three regions of trade controlled by the Ottomans

Use your research findings, map, and timeline to answer the questions below.
1. What effect did the conquest of Constantinople have on the Ottoman Empire and
the spread of Islam?
2. What happened after the reign of Sryman the Magnificent and why?
3. Explain what made the Ottoman Empire’s control of East-West trade routes so
important.
4. The Ottomans began with a large land army. As their empire grew, they had to
build a navy and establish dominance in that sphere as well. Explain the significance
of control of the seas.
5. How did religious tolerance in the Ottoman Empire affect the spread of Islamic
culture and values in the regions the empire conquered?
