Fieldwork Project Final Version
Compile the final version of your Fieldwork Project, writing a 5-7 page (double-spaced, 12 point font with 1®bsp;margins all around) report of your fieldwork experience, including the following 4 sections:
The Research Questions you submitted in Week 6, with your written reflections on the 3 questions, supporting images, listening examples or videos.
A written account of your observations as a participant or observer in live music making.
A transcript of an interview with a person participating in the music culture you explored with at least 3 questions and answers.
A bibliography of 3 library and 3 Internet sources you consulted for background knowledge of the music culture you explored.

What goes into music-making?
You could say it is an artist and their instrument expressing emotions or narrating
stories through rhythm and melody, and at the core that may very well be the case,
however there are additional layers of complexity involved when we talk about
recording music or taking ideas for songs and executing them, and this is where
Mixing/Mastering Engineer and Kenif Muse comes in. Being a Mixing Engineer is partly
like being a mad scientist and part craftsman. The job of a Mixing engineer is one that
most listeners simply don’t consider or think about, since we only ever get the final
product once it’s been refined and perfected. Lucky for me, I got the chance to talk to
Kenif and ask him for some of the key insights regarding his role as both a creative and
technical bonding agent that makes all the elements in a recording come together into a
clean and comprehensive unity.
Beyond the technical part, how would you define your work in its contribution to musicmaking?
Itàa dream job for sure. I work with artists all day and learn new points of view and how
people express themselves. I receive all this input, and then sit down at the desk and do
my thing. Itàa constant creative boot camp in how to collaborate and make art within an
industry. I meet artists as they¥ on the rise, and work hard to shape the sounds that
will define them. Sometimes I work with people I grew up listening to, or alongside my
idols. I`trying to respect both my role in the process and this seat I`earning. I¥
learned a lot from other busy mix engineers, and thereàdefinitely an honor in how you
do this successfully. I get to be a key player in a long creative process that sets a song up
for huge commercial success. Putting my sonic stamp on something thatàgoing out in
the world to live on forever is something I take seriously.
What is your favorite part of being a Mixing Engineer?
My favorite part of what I do is helping aspiring artists make their first official song. A lot
of people who would like to make music like we talked about earlier, don see all the
work that goes into actual song making. Its so much more than the average person
realizes that goes into mixing and song making. My job really moves me when im able to
help new and aspiring artists. I wouldn want to be doing anything else in the world as
an occupation.
