your selected section of the chapter discusses.
4. Provide one SPECIFIC piece of information from the textbook that stood out to you, in terms
of being of interesting on your topic. Cite the textbook page for your information. Be specific! “I
thought it was interesting the way that the textbook presented information on how different
nutrition is associated with different diseases” is NOT specific. “Figure 18.5 titled “Nutrition
transition changes the pattern of disease (page 683 textbook) was an interesting way to
highlight diseases associated with what the textbook called ‘rural, traditional diets’ and ‘affluent
Western diets’, though the lack of nuance is clear when they associate a rural diet with
undernutrition. The text reading clarifies the link with poor economies and developing countries,
but having that information reflected in the chart would provide a more accurate view of what
they are attempting to present.”
5. Provide a functioning link, or an attachment, for a scientifically reliable source other than
your textbook that provides information on your specific topic of interest, that you would like
to learn more about. This source does not have to be a peer-reviewed scientific journal article,
but you will be given a BONUS point on this discussion for using one. (See discussion 2 for a
reminder on how to search for peer reviewed articles if you decide to find one of these as your
reference source.) REMINDER: Wikipedia and yahoo answers are NOT reliable sources of
scientific information for college level work!
6. Provide a critical assessment of your information source; state the specific criteria that you
used to determine that it is a scientifically reliable source of information. (See section 1.5 “Evaluating Nutritional Information” pgs. 24-28 textbook, as well as the link to information on
how to assess online information at the bottom of these discussion instructions for help in
assessing quality of your source information.)
7. Summarize the information provided by your additional reference source. Be specific in
stating how the information is relevant to your chosen topic.
8. Provide TWO questions that this week’s discussion material, either the chapter reading or
your selected source, have generated for you. This may be further questions about your
chosen topic, or questions about different aspects of world hunger and malnutrition.
10. Provide the APA formatted full reference to your second source material. You do not need
to provide an APA formatted reference for the textbook.
