Read the primary source document, Philippine American War-Primary Source Document #1, and answer the following document-based questions (DBQs): How does the author portray or describe the U.S.? How does the author portray himself and the Filipino Revolution? What does the writing reveal about the author’s education level?

3) Why was American imperialism or overseas expansion so controversial or sharply debated across the U.S. in the 1890s? How was the question of immigration tied up with American imperialism?
