AEIS 112: Argumentative Research Paper Guidelines
You will write an argumentative research paper about the topic of your choice. You must
write an appropriate research question that your paper answers with well-supported
evidence from your own research online and using the Knight Library database.
Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to
¤evelop basic research skills using the Knight Library database;
©ntegrate multiple sources into a research paper;
°roperly cite information in the APA documentation style;
¡nticipate and answer counter opinions to your position;
¤isplay acceptable conventions in U.S. essay writing;
´hink critically about a current topic;
¡dd to the current discussion about this topic;
°ractice elements of coherence, cohesion, and logic in your writing; and
¥valuate Internet articles for appropriateness.
Format
”he paper must use APA formatting in margins and font. This means 1-argins
and a commonly used font such as Cambria, Times New Roman, or Helvetica.
The paper must also be double-spaced and left justified.
”he paper must have a title page (an example will be supplied for you).
”he paper must include an APA references page and APA in-text citations.
”he paper should be approximately 1,500 words (this is around 56 pages).
”he paper must have evidence in the form of both paraphrases and direct quotes
from six sources.

Grading and Due Dates
1. A rough draft will be peer reviewed in Week 9 and turned in. This will be 10% of
your final grade.
2. A revised final draft will be turned in at the end of Week 10. This will be 30% of
your final grade.
