‚ased on my personal history research, I know that the United Nations (UN) began
officially in October 1945 after its charter was approved by most signatories, including
China, the United Kingdom, and France, among others (De Coning & Peter, 2019). The
UN is a vital body that is concerned with people’s welfare across the globe. Its relevance
and existence are justified by its outstanding contribution to improving the world by
bringing nations together where they can participate in world decision-making.

Since the second world war, about 165 nations have turned out to be poor and relatively
weak, not to stand on their own in terms of war. Therefore, with the differences in their
culture, ideas, and aspirations, there are high chances of an outbreak of war. Therefore,
my beliefs and assumptions are that the primary reason for forming the UN in 1945 was
to maintain international peace and security, promote healthy living standards, and
safeguard human rights.
y values in relation to the topic “UN’s role in world affairs” is that nations need security
to protect human rights. So, there is a need for an international forum where nations can
air their views and have their interest protected. However, the UN is still committed to
ensuring the well-being of all nations in the world by ensuring security, peace, food, a

well-conserved environment, and economic dependability in all nations (De Coning &
Peter, 2019).

My conclusions about the topic are that the UN is an important body that plays a crucial
role in world affairs as it is concerned with the welfare of all people across the globe.
This topic is relevant to current events such as terrorism and the Covid-19 outbreak. For
instance, the UN enhances awareness and understanding of foreign terrorist fighters
across borders. It helps enhance security by enhancing skills on how to fight terrorism.
Also, the UN-funded the response to Covid-19 and outlined all public health measures
needed to prepare for and respond to the pandemic.
