Topic Statement- 2008 Sichuan earthquake
The 5-12 Wenchuan earthquake occurred on May 12, 2008, at 14:28:4 Beijing time, with
its epicenter located in Yingxiu Town, Wenchuan County, Aba Tibetan, and Qiang Autonomous
Prefecture, Sichuan Province. The magnitude of the 5-12 Wenchuan earthquake was 8.0 on the
surface wave, and the seismic waves of the 5-12 Wenchuan earthquake were confirmed to have
circled the earth 6 times. As of September 25, 2008, 69,227 people were killed, 17,923 people
were missing, 374,643 people were injured to varying degrees, and 19,930,300 people lost their
homes, with a total population of 46,256,000 people affected by the May 12 Wenchuan
earthquake. As of September 2008, the 5-12 Wenchuan earthquake caused direct economic
losses of 845.14 billion yuan. 5-12 Wenchuan earthquake was the most destructive,
widest-reaching, most costly, and most difficult earthquake since the founding of the People’s
Republic of China. I grew up in Beijing and was in kindergarten at the time of the earthquake,
aged 6. Although Beijing is about 1,520 kilometers away from Wenchuan, where the earthquake
occurred, I still felt the tremor at that time. It was also the biggest natural disaster I have
experienced so far. I would like to explore more about the story behind the 2008 Sichuan
earthquake and some of the phenomena that came out of it. Also, since the earthquake greatly
impacted everyone, I could learn more about the 2008 Sichuan earthquake by interviewing
friends or family members and researching some interviews and studies.
our topic is most appropriate and therefore approved for the case history report.
Regarding your sources please make sure you bring more scientifically-informed ones. On
that note, you should make sure you place equal emphasis on both scientific discourses for
explaining the May 12, 2008 earthquake AND the social aspects of the catastrophe for the
populations there.‚ibliography
