This exercise requires individual research, use of that research and development of
arguments to support the topic.
Social media has a growing role in our society. Not only do employers often seek
potential employee social media postings before hire, but businesses are searching for an
effective and long-reaching social media platform.
Organizations realize that social media use can be a double-edged sword. Some are
searching for social media before hiring a potential employee; some have written policies
outlining expected social media use by employees, including, in some cases, what an individual
may or may not post on his / her own time. Research how organizations where you might work
are handling the employee / social media conundrum.
The following questions can express common themes and concerns:

ˆow should a business expect employees to behave on social media, or should there be
expectations? Be able to cite your sources as you work through the assignment.
How can a business effectively use social media, and what are some potential harmful
pitfalls to avoid? Be able to cite your sources as you work through the assignment.
How can a business (or individual) handle social media bullying? Be able to cite your
sources as you work through the assignment.
Assignment: From the perspective of professionals working in your major field, choose two
of the questions above to research. Organize your material and develop a PowerPoint
presentation for your manager to address your chosen questions.

Clearly state your profession / job title (receptionist at a spa salon)
Provide specific examples related to your profession when answering the questions, you
have chosen.
Highlight pros and cons of the situation, based on your research discovery.
Incorporate results of your research (cite what you use)
Think about using graphics, tables, charts, and pictures to complement your views
effectively.
Think about using transitions.
Cite your research in your last slide. This slide presents bibliographical information that
you researched, whether you cited from the source or not.
Develop at least three slides for each of your two chosen questions. (Which results in 6
content slides plus one bibliographical slide at a minimum).
Think about future usage as well as social media usage today.
