In this assignment you will conduct a heuristic evaluation of your project application design,
and revise the design to address one of the issues you identified.
Preparing for the assignment:
1. Complete the usability heuristics reading (reading and short videos
https://www.nngroup.com/articles/ten-usability-heuristics/ )
2. The lecture on heuristic evaluation includes a review of these heuristics.
Important notes and recommendations:
– You can conduct the heuristic evaluation on the version of your project submitted in
Milestone 2, or on a later revision if you have one (latest version is preferred).
– Submit a PDF or Word document containing the outcome of your heuristic evaluation
(see below for details), and a before and after version of your project as separate
Figma files*.
– All work in this assignment is to be done independently, not as a project group.
* if your group is using other prototyping techniques/tools in addition to Figma and your
work in this assignment requires these, please contact your project TA for submission
instructions.
Assignment requirements
A) Apply the 10 Nielsen-Molich heuristics for interaction design. Using your prototype,
for each heuristic:
a. Walk through your design. Using your scenarios can help here.
b. Identify any potential issues with your design that relate to the heuristic.
c. Note these as annotations in your prototype. (15 marks)
d. Summarize issues in a separate document. Write one short paragraph per
heuristic. Clearly indicate how the identified issue(s) relate to the heuristic.
(25 marks)
B) Conduct a redesign to address one significant issue you have detected:
a. In a short paragraph, identify the issue you will address and justify why you
feel it is a significant design flaw/issue. In a second paragraph, describe what
you will do to address the issue and explain how the change(s) will address
the issue. (3 marks)
b. Complete the proposed changes in your prototype. (7 marks)
