Literary Techniques and Your Poem Worksheet
Description
Plot Summary
A plot summary is a summarization of the events of a story. This is your chance to get the summary “out of your system” as it were, since that is the one thing I DO NOT want to see in the Critical Analysis essay itself.
This should be in paragraph format, and about 1 page long.
Name your text, and provide the page number.
What is the poem about?
Do you have a protagonist? An antagonist?
- You may not, but consider carefully.
- What do you think of these individuals?
- Where do you feel the moment of climax occurs in the story/poem? How does that impact you?
Provide a short summary of the text.
Provide an MLA Citation
- THEME : The following information will help you complete part 2 of this assignment.
- Review the following pages in your Literature book:
- Definition of (eme¦nbsp; The central meaning or dominant idea in a literary work. A theme provides a unifying point around which the plot, characters, setting, point of view, symbols, and other elements of a work are organized. It is important not to mistake the theme for the actual subject of the work; the theme refers to the abstract concept that is made concrete trough the images, characterization, and action of the text. In nonfiction, however, the theme generally refers to the main topic of the discourse.
- Now, list as many themes of your story as you can find (5-6).
- Choose the 2-3 most important to you
- Draft a statement summarizing those ideas.
