CIT College of InfoMedical Technology Fullerton English Essay
Description
Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, documents the mental breakdown of a female character at the end of the 19th century. How does this story compare to the similar descent into madness of the title character in William Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily”, whose life spans between 1860s and 1930s? Consider any gender, class or racial issues involved in the social structure of the society in which the wife in Gilman’s story and Faulkner’s Emily lived which may have contributed to the sense of confinement that led to the characters’ downward spiral.
